A CASE OF REPORT OF THE CONGENITAL ANOPHTHALMOS, CLEFT LIP WITH CONGENITAL TERATOMA ON THE FACE

Abstract
Since Thomas Bartholin described one case of the congenital anophthalmos in 1657, about 100 cases have been reported. Anophthalmos is related to complete failure of formation of the primary optic vesicle thus denoting complete absence of essential eye structures. Because this is a very rare condition, the term microphthalmos is usually more appropriate, no matter how small the structures may be. In many cases the differentiation can truly be made only by histologic examination, and even it is difficult. Duke-Elder has suggested the term clinical anophthalmos for all these cases, meaning all cases of a congenital condition in which the eye appears to be absent. The other defects in which they may occur cleft lip, cleft palate, nasal cleft, supernumerary auricle, and supernumerary digits.

Teratoma are true congenital neoplasm of at least two embyologic layers. The origin of these tumors is not clear, but they are thought to arise from pluritent or totipotent cells that do not respond in the usually way to normal differentiation in the developing embryo.

We experienced a congenital anophthalmos, cleft lip with congenital teratoma on the face. We report this case with a brief review of literatures.
